The inhibitory effect of essential plant oils from the Lamiaceae family on the production of virulence factors regulated by Quorum sensing LuxS/AI-2 type in Vibrio harveyi.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the anti-Quorum sensing (LuxS/AI-2) activity of essential oils from Lamiaceae family emphasizing the essential oil from Thymus vulgare and its major constituents carvacrol and thymol via analyzing their influence on the bioluminescence, biofilm formation and swimming motility using strain V. harveyi BB170, a sensor strain for the detection of LuxS/AI-2 type of Quorum sensing.
